Lets face it...Hip Hop revolves around Beats. A Hot 16 will fade into obscurity if its on a Lame Beat!How many rappers do you know of that can carry a mediocre beat. Only an upper echelon MC can breathe life into a Wack Beat!
The beat has to be Hot otherwise its like shooting yourself in the foot...a non starter...road to nowhere...dead end...get it!
There is no excuse for mediocrity in 2000+. Gone are the days when you needed a big budget or a super producer for a hot beat. The net is littered with professional beats at basement prices! You can easily accumulate original beats for a mixtape for less than $200...thats crazy!
Granted they'll be non-exclusive but we're talking beats that will stack up against any major label release minus the mixing and mastering of course.
Mixing and Mastering make a huge difference to the end product...invest wisely.
I'm basically baffled as to why so many rappers chase after free beats! You can buy beats for next to nothing and more importantly if you don't invest in yourself how can you possibly expect someone else to!
A Hip Hop projects success minus marketing and promo is largely based on the quality of the beats.
